Support for Father Kennedy and St Mary's

I'm not sure if you've heard about the wonderful priest who works out of St Mary's in Brisbane.
When we first moved here I worked as a volunteer for the Queensland Aids Council, their office happened to be situated around the corner from St Mary's. It was so wonderful to attend Mass and be with people who helped young homosexual men who were living with aids without any judgement.
These poor men were ostracised by their families (for being gay and then gasp, shock, horror they were infected with the HIV virus too) and they had to rely on complete strangers to care for them. Father Kennedy never ever differentiated between the gay community or the indigenous community, he was (and still is) always inclusive of everyone regardless of their sexual orientation.
I found this all so enlightening. Finally a catholic priest who could see my brother for who he was, a good kind man who loved God and cared deeply about his religion.

I've never been able to forgive the catholic church for ostracising my brother and I now find that they have again proved themselves to be a group of bigots; firing Father Kennedy and causing a lot of pain for the community of St Mary's. For what purpose I ask? Loving and caring and including all people into a catholic community is apparently not what the teachings of Christ are all about.

I'm pretty sure that the Pope and his henchmen will win, Father Kennedy will end up having to leave the church and St Mary's will no longer allow gay couples to openly celebrate Mass. If they still want to be a part of the catholic community they will have to all jump back into the closet, lie to themselves and others about their sexual orientation - only then can they attend Mass. Sound familiar? Sweep it under the carpet before 'they' find out.........

Yes, I'm sure that's exactly what Christ wanted us all to do.
