Early December 2007 - Hamilton Island

Jann, Karen, Colleen and I managed to ditch our husbands, kids and jobs and headed up to Hamilton Island for 3 nights and 4 days.
Jann's parents own a magnificent unit on the island and very kindly let the 4 of us stay there at no cost, and Jann kept a look out for cheap flights all year and luckily managed to get us return air tickets on a great sale!

The 4 of us headed up north with our cozzies, hats and sunscreen cream!

The main beach, gosh I can't even describe to you how truly beautiful it is. Each day there was a spot that took my breath away and I didn't get to swim out and snorkel or dive on the reef. I can only imagine I would have had sensor overload if I had managed that.

This was the view from our balcony. That Island is the Whitsunday Island! Imagine that! Whew every morning waking up and looking at that view.
How is that for a balcony????? We happily sat on the balcony partaking in breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, pre dinner drinks and snacks and of course dinner!

We had such a wonderful time. What we all loved was being able to start a conversation and finish it!!! A first for the 4 of us. Usually we are interrupted by a need to get home to cook or pick up or drop off someone somewhere so we all loved the luxury of just truly relaxing and enjoying our time together.

Each morning we'd get up and do a bit of yoga, then Jann would drag us off for a walk. We'd return to wallow in the pool for about a half an hour before strolling up the stairs to the unit for a shower and then brekkie on the balcony.

The hill Jann made us walk up! The unit is at the base of this hill!

Our resident "beached whales"

Once we were sated we'd set off to the main beach to relax on the loungers under the palm trees looking out at the beautiful water! After a couple of hours we'd head back to the unit for yummy lunch (on that balcony!), our afternoons were spent either talking endlessly, shopping or resting the heavy eyelids!

Our first evening there we bought some very fresh and yummy fish & chips and ate it - yep you guessed it - on that balcony!

The second night we headed off earlier to have sundowners at the top of THAT HILL! It's actually called One Tree Hill and the hotel sets up a bar from 5pm - 7pm each night. You can buy cocktails and watch the sun set. Just delightful! Actually the night after that we drove past the Hill and saw a bridal party having their photo's taken there!

After that we set off to the marina and managed to get in to a lovely little restuarant on the water. In the middle of the dinner fire works went off over the water! Not sure if thats a nightly thing or not????

On the way home we stopped off again at One Tree Hill to do abit of star gazing. I think you just forget how many stars there really are out there!

The baby island that we had to pass every day!

Cocktails on the beach!

Our final meal...

The little boat we all lusted after!

All in all the long weekend was fabulous. But what I think we will all remember for a very very long time was how much we laughed! I cannot remember ever laughing that much. We headed home relaxed and absolutely certain that it was something we would do again.

I'm sorry Karen caouldn't be in the photo - but this is pretty much what we did for 3 nights and 4 days! What a wonderful bunch of friends I have. For reasons best left unexplained we left the island labelling ourselves "The Woes Wildebeest". The gals couldn't quite get the pronunciation right but gee they loved saying it!
